Did Krishna marry Radha?
Yes. Srimati Radharani is the first wife of Lord Krishna. Yes, you read it right. There is an ancient place called ‘Bhandirvana’ in Vrindavana where Lord Brahma completed the marriage ceremony of Radha and Krishna. The story is well described in Garga Samhita, Adi Varaha Purana, Gopala Champu of Srila Jiva Goswami etc.
This incident took place during the childhood pastimes of Krishna, one day Nandababa took him along to a nearby forest from Nandagram (village) for cattle grazing purposes. When Nandababa freed all the cows, then he started taking rest beneath a banyan tree. Then Krishna decided to show him a Leela (divine play). All of a sudden a huge thunderstorm broke out with heavy rainfall, many trees had been falling, then seeing these Nandababa became anxious, because he had to save Little Krishna as well as cattle too. In between Krishna started pretending that he is very scared and he wrapped him tight. Then Nandababa saw Radharani is coming, seeing Radharani in that forest he became astonished. Then, with tearful eyes and devotion he said – “You have given me Your Darshan. Garga Acarya has told me that Kṛṣṇa is a God and You are His beloved, please take care of Him.” After saying all this, Nandababa placed his little Krishna in the hand of Radha Rani. Radhika then took Krishna to the inner part of Bhandriavana. Here Shri Krishna manifested himself as Kisora, a beautiful youth who bewilders even the mind of Cupid. Meanwhile, Lalita, Visäkhä and the other sakhis also appeared here with Caturmukha Brahmä. Knowing the desire of Kisora-Kisori, Brahmä performed Their Gandharva wedding by reciting Vedic mantras.
Shri Radhika and Shri Krishna exchanged beautiful flower garlands. The delighted sakhis sang wedding songs as the demigods showered flowers from the sky. Śrī Kṛṣṇa asked Brahmā, “What will you take as Dakshina” Brahmā says, “I wish to always have devotion at your lotus feet.”
While everyone looked on, Brahma left that place. The sakhis also disappeared, and Krishna again assumed the form of a small boy. Shri Radhika took Krishna by hand and returned to Nanda Baba, who was standing waiting for Him. Meanwhile, the clouds dispersed and the storm abated. After that Nanda Baba returned with Krishna to his Nandagaon (Village).
